The other day, a Japanese friend invited me to a special seafood dinner. We enjoyed fresh seafood, which we cannot get at an ordinary supermarket because people don't have a custom to eat raw fish in the UK. If we want fish fresh enough to eat raw, we have to order one at a fishmonger or go fishing by ourselves. We had scallops, slices of sea bream, chopped horse mackerel and oysters. Besides, it was the first time I had raw lobster, which had a nice texture and a sweet taste. I had never dreamed I could eat such a variety of fresh seafood here, so I was absolutely thrilled. Thanks to my friend.
Our catch of that day, mussels also turned into a satisfactory meal. We often pick some wild mussels and cook them with white wine. Although it's hard work to get rid of all the barnacles from the shells, which have normally been removed from bought ones, we prefer free and fresh food. We always tackle our mussels with uptempo music.
さらに私は調子づいて、浜辺で海藻を採集してみました。サラダにしてみましたが、まあ食べられなくはない・・・感じ。もっと勉強して美味しくただで海の幸が楽しめるようになりたいと思います。
Furthermore, being elated by these fish feasts, I tried picking some seaweed at a beach and ate them as a salad. It was not inedible but I need more study for that. And hopefully I can find more wonderful free seafood.
