Troyes is famous for its heritage of stained glass. I
thought there were many churches as well as a big cathedral in the small town
centre. What most impressed me was Troyes’ many half-timbered houses built
right next to each other. Some of the old houses were far from level or
upright. I wonder how they have avoided collapse?
It was interesting to walk along Troyes’ narrow streets but
it was very cold which was unusual for the end of March. Getting chilly, we went
into an Indian restaurant for a hot lunch. It was doubtful that champagne was
going to go well with an Indian curry, nevertheless, I ordered one as an
aperitif. One small glass of champagne was 6 euro, which was expensive as we
were in the productive centre. Anyway, I enjoyed a luxurious feeling although I
couldn’t tell the difference between the champagne and other sparkling wines.
