イスタンブールの道路 The streets in Istanbul

イスタンブールの空港から市内まで移動はとても便利。メトロ（地下鉄）とトラム（路面電車）に乗って移動しました。
メトロもトラムもそれぞれどこの駅まで乗っても1.5リラ（当時約120円）。専用のコインを窓口で買って、それを改札口に入れて入ります。
大都会なのに（しかもコインは1種類しかないのに）自動販売機ではないのが不思議。
トラムの駅なんかでは、そばの売店でコインを取り扱っているので、どこで買ったらよいのか迷いました。

自動販売機がこんなにどこでもあるのは日本くらいではないでしょうか。
外国では、防犯の問題から自動販売機は屋内に設置されていることが多いようです。

It was convenient to get to the city center from Istanbul airport. I took the Metro and a Tram.
It cost 1.5TL.(Turkish lira) each, which is around 120 Japanese yen then. It was a fixed charge irrespective of number of stops traveled.
I bought a token at a ticket window and put it in a slot at the gate.
I was wondering why they didn't use vending machines, because Istanbul was a large city and also there was only one kind of taken.
At the tram station, the coin was sold at a nearby food and paper stand, I got confused when buying it.

I think there is no country which has as many vending machines everywhere as Japan.
In foreign countries, the machines are usually set up indoors to prevent crime.

自動販売機はありませんが、屋台は町にたくさんでています。
スミットというゴマをまぶしたリングパンやケバブサンドイッチの屋台の他にも、焼き栗の屋台をよく見かけました。トルコの冬の風物詩だそうです。
焼き栗屋台は他のヨーロッパの国にもあるようで、意外と色々な国で食べられているんですね。

In Istanbul, there were no vending machines, but many food stands on the streets.
I often saw stands for ring bread with sesame, called "Simit", for kabob sandwiches, and also for roast chestnuts.
I heard that roast chestnuts brought the real feeling of winter to people there.
It seems that there are roast chestnut stands in other European countries as well.
I had not expected that they were eaten in so many countries.

韓国の象徴 The symbol of Korea

ソウルに１泊し、飛行機出発まで時間があったので宋廟に向かいました。
宋廟は李氏朝鮮時代（1392～1910年）、王室の祭祀が行われていた場所です。
正殿には功徳の大きい歴代の王、王妃が祭られているのですが、
祭る神主が増えるに従って横に増築していったということで長さが101m。
長く続いた王朝だったんですね。
宋廟は、途中一度焼失しており、それは豊臣秀吉が攻めた時で、その王朝が終わりを告げたのは日本が韓国を併合した時だという事実にも歴史を考えさせられます。

I stayed in Seoul overnight, then went to Jongmyo before my flight departure.
Jongmyo is the royal ancestral shrine of the Joseon dynasty(1392-1910).
Jeongjeon (main hall) enshrines the spirits of successive kings and queens of merit.
It was expanded and repaired as the number of the spirits increased, then finally reaching a length of 101m.
I felt the length of the dynasty.
Jongmyo was destroyed by fire at once, it was because a Japanese military commander, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, attacked there. Furthermore, the dynasty finished because of the annexation of Korea by Japan. Being Japanese, I could only feel the history as well.

門のところに赤、青、黄色のうずまきを発見。
これはなんのしるし？

韓国では陰陽道にのっとり、赤、青、黄、白、黒の５色を大切にしていて、
このうずまきマークは天地万物の調和を表しているらしいです。
これを調べていて初めて分かったことですが、韓国の国旗には赤と青の太極が書かれていたんですね。
国旗から見える文化、面白いと思いました。

I found a spiral of red, blue and yellow at the gate.
What symbol was this?

In Korea, they follow the Way of Yin and Yang and value five colors, red, blue, yellow, white and black.
It is said that the spiral expresses the harmony of the universe.
I haven't thought about what was painted on the Korean flag before. It was the symbol of the universe in red and blue.
We can understand their culture by their national flag, that's interesting!

ソウル経由イスタンブール行き Flight to Istanbul via Seoul

今回の旅はギリシャメイン。
大韓航空のソウル経由イスタンブール行きをチョイスしました。
ソウルもイスタンブールも見れちゃうし、札幌から直接海外に飛べるのがうれしいところ。

機内食にはビビンバがでました。チューブ入りコチュジャン付き。
韓国人は何を食べるにもキムチを欠かさないといいますが、
さすがににおいがきついからか、機内食にはでてきませんでした。
帰りの便でグラタンが出たのですが、「コチュジャン要りますか？」と聞かれ、
「え？何に使うの？」と思いながらももらってみました。
隣の席の韓国人を盗み見てみると、そう、グラタンにコチュジャンを投入したんです。
さ、さすが。
自分も試してみましたが、ホワイトソースのくどさが消える感じで結構いけるかもしれません。

I travelled mainly in Greece this time.
I chose the Korean Air flight to Istanbul via Seoul, because it gave me a chance to visit both cites and so I could fly directly from Sapporo.

They served bibimbap for a in-flight meal, with a tube of gochujang, Korean hot pepper paste.
I hear Korean people never miss kimchi, Korean hot pickles for any meals, but they didn't serve it for in-flight meals, maybe because of the smell.
On my way back, they served a gratin and asked if I needed gochujang.
I didn't understand what I needed it for, but I got it just in case.
I stole a glance at the Korean passenger next to me, then found she put the gochujang in the gratin.
Oh, that's Korean style...
I tried that, the hot taste offset the heavy white sauce, it was tasty.
